Xenobiotic Detection Systems is a research based biotechnology company that offers a patented bioassay for analyzing dioxin and dioxin-like compounds, including PCBs, dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans, with detection limits of less than one part per trillion. The company has also developed reporter bioassay systems for endocrine disruptors. These systems identify estrogen agonists, as well as antagonists by measuring receptor mediated transcriptional activation. This activity can be measured in pure compounds or in extracts. XDS has licensed its technology, set up laboratories and provided staff training to the Arkansas Regional Laboratory of the United States Food and Drug Administration; the Belgian Government's Scientific Institute of Public Health; the Polish National Veterinary Research Institute; and the Hiyoshi Corporation of Japan. The company was founded in 1995 and is located in Durham, N.C.
