Just plain bad. Even the noodles were bad. Avoid this place - there are plenty of mediocre and even decent restaurants around, this just isn't one of them.

There is really good and really bad reviews about this place so I decided to try this place out and come up with my own conclusion. I can only give this place a single star for the friendliness of the staff and cleanliness of the establishment. As for the food, I was not impressed at all. True: the carrots are really soft, soba was sub par, and the sushi (though no actual sushi bar) was unimpressive. Though the price is cheaper the competitors; you pretty much get what you pay for which is not a lot. Fast fresh healthy food? I beg to differ.

All I can say is, great food, fast and friendly service, and clean restaurant. I Love it!

Been long awaiting a japanese restaurant on roxboro, so when i saw the "coming soon" on the new koumi restaurant I was very excited!!! Unfortunately this did not met any of my expectations. Though very clean and friendly service, the food was one of the worse japanese food I have had. Soba's were very plain and the sweet carrots were so soft and sweet I felt like a senior gnawing on baby food. As former sushi chef I thought the sushi roll were mushy. Rice was too moist, and tasted plain. The wasabi was odd tasting as if it was old which did not help the rolls. I did not expect anything grand but when you can get better sushi at Kroger grocery store; somethings not right.

I wish I could come to the Koumi Japanese Resturant everyday. Excellent service and cleanliness. And on top of that superb food. I am from Chicago and every time I go out east I go to Koumi to eat dinner. Best Hibachi on the East Coast. And for a good price too.

I love Japanese food, but this was terrible. I wasn't expecting anything gourmet, but this is beyond poor execution. The place looked clean and the staff was very nice, but they can't cook worth a lick. I never knew Japanese food could taste this bad.
