The Durham Street Maintenance Division is responsible for public roadway maintenance, street resurfacing, alley and sidewalk maintenance in the city of Durham, N.C. The division is also responsible for the maintenance of the storm water drainage system within the city's right-of-way. In addition, the division also plans and executes the city s winter weather plan to reduce the hazards to traffic created by snow, ice and debris from natural disasters. Through a municipal agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, the city receives a reimbursement for the costs associated with some maintenance for that part of the state highway system that is within the city limits. Storm water charges for city streets are paid in this program. The division also maintains a pothole hotline.
