- Dental ExaminationYour dental hygienist will review your medical and dental history and you will have the opportunity to share with her your reasons for being here, your dental and health concerns, as well as your desires for your mouth. We will then take a series of radiographs, with the latest digital technology using 65% less radiation than a traditional x-ray. These are important and necessary to properly diagnose and treat all patients. From these radiographs, photographs and a comprehensive exam, Dr. Schick can document your past dental history and determine your current oral health.
- X-rays
- Oral Cancer ScreeningUpon completing the necessary radiographs, your dental hygienist will begin gathering information to assist Dr. Schick in completing his examination of your mouth. We will take a series of extraoral photographs of your mouth. Your hygienist will palpate your neck and face assessing for any abnormalities, as well as an oral cancer screening. She will completely chart existing conditions in your mouth including previously restored or extracted teeth, as well as a complete periodontal charting to help determine the health of your gums and bone support. She will discuss treatment needs with you and show videos to help explain possible problems, reasons for treatment and treatment options.
- Teeth CleaningNo matter what your age, visiting the dentist on a regular schedule will help keep your teeth and gums healthy, and your smile bright! The American Dental Association recommends that you, and your child, visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings. We would love to see you here every six months to make sure that your smile is staying healthy!
- Fluoride TreatmentGeneral, preventative dentistry should start early. A child’s first dental visit should take place at 6 to 12 months after birth. Regular fluoride treatments, administered by a dentist, are especially helpful in strengthening enamel and arresting tooth decay for children. Contact our general dentistry practice today to schedule an appointment for your child.
- Dental SealantsDental sealants are a plastic coating painted on the grooved, hard-to-reach surfaces of the back teeth. Pits and fissures on these surfaces are particularly susceptible to tooth decay. Dental sealants can be used to seal out cavity-causing bacteria from damaging the teeth.
- Fillings
- Resin CompositeDental veneers can be made from porcelain or from resin composite materials. Porcelain veneers resist stains better than resin veneers and better mimic the light reflecting properties of natural teeth. Resin veneers are thinner and require removal of less of the tooth surface before placement. You will need to discuss the best choice of veneer material for you with your dentist.
- VeneersVeneers are an ideal cosmetic solution for everyone who desires a beautiful smile with minimal invasions into their teeth.
- CrownsFor those considering a visit to Southwest Dental Group, it’s completely understandable to have questions about your dental health. That’s why we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to the top questions we encounter about dental care. This guide covers a range of topics from family dentistry and preventative measures to cosmetic treatments. In an era where advancements like one-day crowns and digital radiography are revolutionizing dental care, it’s beneficial to be informed about the treatments available. At Southwest Dental Group, we strive to ensure your dental experience is as seamless and comfortable as possible.
- BridgesA dental bridge is a false tooth or teeth, known as a pontic, which is fused between two porcelain fused to gold crowns to fill the area left by a missing tooth or teeth. The two crowns holding it in place are cemented onto your teeth on each side of the false tooth and are referred to as abutment teeth. This is known as a fixed bridge. This procedure is used to replace 1-2 missing teeth. Fixed bridges cannot be taken out of your mouth as you do with removable partial dentures.
- Dental BondingDental bonding is a procedure in which a tooth-colored resin (composite) material (a durable plastic material) is applied and hardened with a special light. This ultimately “bonds or cures” the material to the tooth to restore or improve a person’s smile.
- Restorative DentistryBrush at least twice daily using a soft-bristle toothbrush and an ADA-accepted fluoride toothpaste. This helps prevent tooth decay, gum disease, and the need for costly cosmetic or restorative dentistry in the future. Replace your brush every two to three months.
- Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal therapy treats infection or damage within a tooth's root, effectively relieving pain and preserving the natural tooth.
- Deep CleaningTo stop periodontal (gum) disease from progressing, your dentist may advise periodontal therapy or deep cleaning. This gets rid of the bacteria in the pocket and provides the necessary conditions for healing to occur.
- DenturesWe seamlessly integrate innovative technologies such as minimally invasive techniques, 3-D printing and custom dentures revolutionizing patient care and precision in dental treatments.
- Dental ImplantsYou can replace 1 or more teeth almost anywhere in the mouth. Your limits are generally the quality of the bone and any major health issues. Where and how can implants be used?
- Oral Surgery
- Tooth Extractions
- OrthodonticsNumerous other cosmetic dentistry techniques exist that can provide “instant orthodontics” that require no braces at all. Composite bonding and the application of porcelain veneers are both conservative ways to mask the appearance of crooked teeth. Be aware that these cosmetic approaches cannot address orthodontic issues such as an overbite, underbite, or crossbite, and therefore are not suitable for every patient.
- Invisalign OrthodonticsA series of clear plastic aligners are utilized to create tooth movement. Moving teeth with removable aligners are not new. However, the computer program, which can generate a series of aligners with small changes is new. Invisalign is recommended for orthodontic situations with mild to moderate spacing or crowding. They are virtually undetectable, easy to use and comfortable to wear.
- BracesLuckily, your options for correcting crooked teeth mean you don’t have to endure the uncomfortable metal braces of the past!
- Teeth WhiteningMany teeth whitening systems are available, including In-Office treatments, custom fabricated tray-based whiteners, whitening toothpastes, over-the-counter gels, rinses, strips, and trays.
