Opened in 1995, the St. Louis County Jail is a detention facility that is used to confine sentenced prisoners and prisoners awaiting sentencing. In addition to incarcerating offenders from all jurisdictions within St. Louis County, Minn., the jail also holds fugitives wanted in other states and other Minnesota counties, as well as prisoners from the United States Marshall s office. The jail is operated by the jail division of the St. Louis County Sheriff s Office. The jail provides food, clothing, bedding and indoor recreational facilities for all inmates. Substance abuse treatment groups and recreational, educational and religious programs are offered to inmates who wish to participate. Medical treatment is provided within the facility by a licensed physician and nursing staff. It is also provided in the community by local clinics, hospitals and dentists. The St. Louis County Jail is located in Duluth, Minn.
