- EndoscopyBVI services are divided between evaluation and management (E&M) and procedures. E&M refers to time spent understanding the problem, doing a simple screening examination, and discussing the diagnosis and plan with patient and family. A procedure most often refers to endoscopy such as videostroboscopy (to evaluate voice disorders), videoendoscopic swallowing study, esophagoscopy, or tracheoscopy. Other procedures include Botox injection for spasmodic dysphonia, biopsy of a lesion, injection of voice gel or steroid, and so forth.
- ChemotherapyMethods for treating larynx cancer include surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy. For smaller tumors in particular, laser excision through the mouth can offer dramatic advantages. BVI clinicians have a large and noteworthy experience with larynx cancer, including not only endoscopic laser approaches but also (when tumors are very advanced) partial or total laryngectomy.

He or she must be aiming for a career in laryngology with interest and aptitude in not only the medicine and surgery of the laryngopharynx, but also in voice disorders and vocal phenomenology. Ordinarily the latter requirement would include the ability to match pitch, musical aptitude, and in the best case, experience as a singer.
