The Delaware State Housing Authority provides a variety of housing opportunities and supportive services to state residents who are economically disadvantaged. The authority, founded in 1968 as a public corporation in the state department of housing, is now an independent authority in the executive department. It assists for-profit and nonprofit housing sponsors with loans and grants. The authority also applies for and receives subsidies from the federal government and other sources and issues its bonds and notes. In addition, it also serves as a public housing authority and a community development and planning agency. The authority receives, builds, owns and operates public housing in Kent and Sussex counties in Delaware. The Delaware State Housing Authority has several divisions, including administration, planning and community development, community relations, housing asset management and legislative issues.
