Established in 1903, The Houston County Sheriff's Department serves as the chief law enforcement agency in Houston County, Ala. It provides services for law enforcement, corrections and courts. The department has a staff of more than 50 certified officers. The Houston County Sheriff's Department operates a 204-bed jail facility. It offers road patrol, investigative and emergency call response services. The department has a dispatch division that provides call dispatch services for more than 40,000 calls annually for law enforcement, fire and other emergency services. Located in Dothan, Ala., The Houston County Sheriff's Department also provides public information, crime prevention, community relations, human resources, finance, purchasing and receiving, training, accreditation and internal affairs services.
