San Juan National Forest is spread over an area of more than 2 million acres. Established in 1905, the forest features several lakes, streams, reservoirs, rocks, caves, mountains, pit houses and dwellings. It offers a range of recreational and volunteer opportunities. The forest produces various fossils, minerals and energy resources. San Juan National Forest maintains a location in Dolores, Colo.
