General Info
Detroit-Windsor dance Academy and is a non-profit tax exempt 501c (3) organization, DWDA was established in 1984 believing that if the community could become re-connected through dance, orginal art form, then self-esteem, confidence, motivation and awareness would be fostered, thus creating a community of healthy, happy and productvie citizens. Detroit-Windsor Dance Academy provides a place where people of all ages and walks of life can come together through dance, to build a stronger community and become more disciplined, focused individuals. As stated in the May '98 Essence Magazine, since 1979 Detroit-Windsor Dance Academy has proven that dance is more than pirouettes and plies. For the 500+ youth that attend the company's training academy, it is the catalyst that has often turned them around, giving them focus, purpose, and a creative outlet. For the enrolled in the school's classes in Ballet, Modern, Jazz/Funk, Hip-Hop, Liturgical, Etnic, Tap and Choreography, dance is th e motivation that feeds their artistic spirit. The inspiring message of Detroit-Windsor's annual concert is broadcast into 126,000 Detroit households. Founded by Debra Jean White-Hunt and her husband, Bruce Hunt, The Detroit-Windsor Dance Academy has become renowned far beyond it's Midwest roots for the athletic as well as artistic ability of its professional dance company, and for the sheer excellence it brings to the field of dance.
