Detroit Meals on Wheels is a nutrition service for seniors governed by the Detroit Area Agency on Aging, which is a private, nonprofit agency founded in 1980 as a senior planning, funding and advocacy agency. The program serves more than 11,000 seniors aged 60 years and above who live in Detroit, Hamtramck, Harper Woods, Highland Park, Grosse Pointe Farms, Grosse Pointe Shores and Grosse Pointe Woods in Michigan. Its staff members deliver meals to homebound seniors five days a week. The program encourages seniors to eat a nutritional meal in a social setting, such as churches and recreation centers.
