General Info
Decatur, Georgia ( November 11, 2010 ) - On November 21, 2010, Peace Baptist Church will be changing their service times and launch their first Sunday service at a second location at Rehoboth on 2997 Lawrenceville Highway in Tucker, GA. God has blessed Peace to be able to expand their ministry into the facilities of Rehoboth Baptist Church, a 225, 000 square foot facility. They will still have a Sunday service at their current location at 1399 Austin Drive in Decatur, GA.Peace moved to its current 45, 000 square foot church building on Austin Drive in 2004. They quickly outgrew that facility and immediately began looking for a future location for continued growth. They purchased 40 acres of land near the intersection of Miller and Snapfinger Roads in Lithonia, GA. However, the economic downturn forced them to pursue other creative, out of the box options to solve their space issues. Rehoboth Baptist Church has an expansive facility that was not being fully utilized and was pursuing creative solutions to become better stewards of their facility. These two pursuits collided and a partnership was formed between Peace and Rehoboth. Peace now has the opportunity to accommodate more people for worship in the 2, 000 seat sanctuary and expand its discipleship, children, teens, and outreach programs by using the Rehoboth facility. This unique partnership will serve as a pilot and testimony of how multi-racial, multi-generational and multi-congregational services can occur in unity at one location. Both Peace and Rehoboth have experience sharing their facility with start-up churches and providing them with the opportunity to grow and expand. Now, two established churches are agreeing to share a facility and pool their resources and strengths together to fulfill God's plan and purpose in their respective churches. Pastor Tyrone Barnette of Peace Baptist Church states, "Without a doubt this is a God sized vision and opportunity. I have always dreamed of being a part of a movement that reflected the Kingdom of God racially, culturally, and practically. This is an example of what can happen if we get out of God's way and let Him lead us. I am eternally grateful to the people of Rehoboth and look forward to our partnership that will prayerfully serve as a testimony to the larger Christian body."Jon Langford, the interim Pastor of Rehoboth Baptist Church states, "We are excited to see what God is going to do through Rehoboth and Peace Baptist Church. Our meeting was not by accident but providential. Once again God has provided another partnership to meet the needs in our surrounding communities. Peace will be the seventh church added to our campus and we just can't wait to have them on board. Thank you Rehoboth for stepping out on faith, may God get the glory!"On Austin Drive, Peace will have a Sunday Worship service at 8: 30 am in the Sanctuary. The Children and Teens will have their own services in their respective departments and check-in begins at 8: 15 am. Prior to service, Sunday Impact Classes will take place at 7: 30 am in classrooms throughout the building for adults, teens, and children. On Friday Nights, Peace will be expanding its Celebrate Recovery program that begins at 7: 00 pm. This program is not only for those with addiction issues. This program is designed for all who want to develop spiritually and eliminate obstacles that hinder them from fulfilling their God-given purpose.Peace Baptist Church began in the home of Pastor Tyrone and Tabitha Barnette with 14 adults in February 1993. During its first year, Peace worshipped in 8 different locations before sharing space in Indian Creek Baptist Church. Peace is known for its warm, inviting, casual atmosphere and outreach has been a major focus of the church. Currently, the church is being used to process energy assistance applications. The food pantry housed in Peace is close to distributing over 1 million pounds of food. Peace seeks to be a beacon of light in the community in
