Dr. David Fern is the founder and medical director of Vein & Skin Laser Center. He is double board certified: by the American Board of Surgery and by the American Board of Venous and Lymphatic Medicine. He is in the charter class for ABVLM, which included only 248 diplomates nationwide. He has received certification for the treatment of varicose veins using VNUS Closure radiofrequency and has also received certification for skin laser treatment. He has been involved in the treatment of skin diseases, skin cancer, melanoma, breast cancer, and vein surgery for 30 years. His training in general, cancer and trauma surgery has required his proficiency in the diagnosis and treatment of vascular and skin injuries.A native of Atlanta, Dr. Fern attended Druid Hills High School. He was a Mechanical Engineering graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology. He graduated from Emory University Medical School. After attending medical school, Dr. David Fern continued his specialty training in general surgery at Emory University Hospital. He then practiced in the United States Army under the Berry Plan for two years prior to starting in private practice at the DeKalb Medical Center.Dr. Fern is on staff at the Northside Hospital and the DeKalb Medical Center, where he has served as Chief of Surgery and has been Chairman of the Peer Review Committee for the last 25 years. During this time Dr. Fern received his second specialty certification in treating vein and lymphatic disease.Putting his background and skills to benefit the common good, Dr. David Fern is proud to be one of four physicians to travel to Kenya with Heart for Africa, a volunteer humanitarian organization serving Africas widows, orphans and underprivileged residents. He received the Hero Award from the DeKalb Medical Center in October, 2008. In addition, he was also awarded the Julius McCurdy Citizenship Award by the DeKalb Medical Society at their January, 2011 meeting.

we had some complications through out the process but dr.fern managed to do everything he could to help my dad.

The doctor and his team were very professional in dealing with my health concerns. At no time did I fear or feel uncomfortable with my treatment.

After evaluation, Dr Fern scheduled the vein procedure for the the following week. I was given detailed instructions on how to handle the vein if it should rupture before he could do the repair and told to stop blood thinners 3 days before the procedure. The day of the procedure the veins were visualized with ultrasound to guide the injection of Varithena. Dr Fern was careful to minimize the discomfort of the injection by slowing down if I felt pain. He is gentle, kind, and has a great table-side manner. Overall, he cares about his patients and I would highly recommend him to anybody.
He might be a "short and sweet" individual, but he is right there with it. He explains everything explicitly. Overall, he's the best, and I wouldn't go to anybody else.
Beyond my expectations for an unanticipated surgery.
Dr. fern is a great doctor he did a great job on my leg. As a surgeon he is awesome. I would not have anyone else work on me if I need surgical problems.
When things did hurt. Dr. Fern warned me about "poking or stabbing" during the sclerotherapy procedure. He had a very compassionate way of handling painful points.
This was a quick and accuirate diagnosis. Treatment plan was accurate and successful. The staff is friendly and helpful.

I met Dr. David Fern following a procedure which required emergency surgery. Dr. Fern was informative during the first meeting, explaining every step of the surgery he was going to perform. After the surgery, he was very attentive and continued to monitor me closely until discharge. He was very pleasant and I felt like I was his only patient. I would recommend him for all of your surgical needs.
The staff is also really good and has improved since 2009. He does an excellent job and I am very pleased.
