Although laser centers are required by law to have a doctor on-site, other practices may not have a fellowship-trained, double board-certified surgeon who is focused exclusively on facial plastic surgery. In addition to medical school and his general surgery residency, Dr. Light has completed a four-year residency in head and neck surgery. He also completed an additional year-long fellowship in facial plastic surgery.   Lauren Sharp, RN brings experience and a kind, upbeat spirit that is appreciated by everyone who meets her. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree in December of 2017. While she studied to become a nurse, she also worked as a nursing assistant at Decatur Morgan Hospital. As soon as she completed her training, the hospital hired Lauren in her new capacity as a registered nurse to care for patients on its medical surgical floor. There she gained a wide range of experience. A few of her responsibilities included balancing the needs of multiple patients, delivering medications, providing post-operative care, and attending to wound care. In the summer of 2020, she joined Light Facial Plastic Surgery as a laser and cosmetic nurse. Lauren is certified to operate the CoolSculpting platform and the personal rejuvenation system for women called Votiva. She also assists Dr. Light during treatments which range from Botox and filler injections to more involved, in-office treatments such as FaceTite and BodyTite.

• Nose Surgery

• Otoplasty
  Otoplasty is usually performed under general anesthesia for young children and under local anesthetic for adults. The procedure takes between one to two hours to complete. After making an incision behind the ear, Dr. Light removes and repositions cartilage to achieve a smaller size and a more pleasing shape. Excess skin from the back of the ear may be reduced in cases where the ears need to be positioned more closely to the side of the head. The incisions are then closed and the procedure is complete.

• Chemical Peels
  The first type of chemical peel that our Aesthetic Staff offers is a light “lunchtime” laser peel. The exact solution used in a light chemical peel varies according to the patient’s skin type and goals, but light chemical peels are always gentle and can be completed within an hour. Light chemical peels are usually made from a combination of alpha hydroxy acids (derived from sugar cane, milk, fruit, and other natural substances) and beta hydroxy acid (derived from fruit). The mixture is applied to the patient’s skin to treat the outer, damaged layers of skin and encourage the production of new skin, rich with collagen and elastin.

• Microdermabrasion
  The treatment uses a handheld device known as a dermatome is moved gently over the treatment area to exfoliate the skin and slough the damaged, outer layers. Although the procedure is non-invasive, the  device exerts more pressure than the one used in microdermabrasion. Treatment generally lasts no more than an hour, although sometimes multiple sessions are necessary to achieve optimal results.
