- UltrasoundPH can be evaluated noninvasively by an echocardiogram (ultrasound of the heart). However, it must be further characterized and definitively diagnosed by an invasive cardiac catheterization procedure. This involves placement of a catheter enabling measurement of pressures inside the heart and lungs -- a low-risk procedure known as right heart catheterization.
- RadiologyThe Cardiac Catheterization Lab at Huntsville Hospital is one of the busiest cath labs in the United States with multiple cardiac catheterization labs staffed by a team of interventional cardiologists, radiology technologists, registered nurses and cardiovascular technologists dedicated to providing excellence in care. Diagnostic heart catheterization with digital optical intravascular imaging, pressure measurement and flow measurement is utilized with traditional fluoroscopy to guide the most appropriate intervention. Interventional treatment options include atherectomy, thrombectomy, balloon angioplasty, and/or stent placement. Patients undergoing high-risk coronary intervention can be supported during the procedure with left ventricular assist devices including Impella and TandemHeart.
- X-Rays
- Computed TomographyTo determine the presence of iliac vein compression, your physician may first order an ultrasound of the lower extremities. If this test is negative, your physician may order a CT scan or Venogram to get a more in-depth look at the vessels in the pelvis.
