I recently responded to an ad in the Pennysaver newspaper for an entry level Graphic design/illustrator at Print Art in Daytona Beach,FL. Info I gathered from the ad and a conversation with the secretary told me no experience was necessary, and that I only needed to show I possessed artistic/creative ability. After hours spent assembling a resume, cover letter, and several examples of my artwork, I drove for 45 min. to attend an interview with the owner/operator, Mr.Avcilar. During the interview, it seemed my inexperience with graphic design software was not only a problem, but a deal breaker. There was very little conversation or question asking, only Mr.Avcilar scrolling through artwork on his computer. When I attempted to elaborate on my artistic abilities and related skills, my desire to learn and succeed in this industry, I was interrupted and generally ignored. I walked away feeling disappointed, offended, and that I had wasted my time. Print Art seems to produce a quality product, but I wouldn't suggest even attempting to get a job there.
