Established in 1797, the Dayton Police Department is a state-accredited law enforcement agency that provides services for the safety and welfare of the public. It issues auto releases, accident reports, alarm permits, and firearm permits and releases. Located in Dayton, Ohio, the Dayton Police Department offers community policing and statistics, criminal reporting and investigations, domestic violence prevention and street crime interdiction services. The department also offers several support services, including gun registration, animal control, and traffic and parking law enforcement. The Dayton Police Department has various specialized units, such as special response, traffic and community safety units, as well as the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
