After removing my polish the manicurist reached into a tupperware container that had all sorts of stuff in it and got out the nippers to work on my cuticles. I was visiting Danville. I don't live there. I am used to watching manicurists open a package of sterilized equipment for the nippers. I asked when the nippers were last sterilized. She did not understand me. She talked to the manicurist next to her in an Asian language, then got up and got a bottle of acohol and a cotton ball and was making a show of cleaning the nippers with the alcohol. That's just not sufficient. The state board of health says the following:



Nail brushes, nippers, finger bowls, disinfectable or washable files and buffers and other instruments must be washed in soap and water (files are to be scrubbed with a brush to remove all foreign matter), rinsed, thoroughly dried with a clean paper towel, and then completely immersed in an EPA-registered hospital (grade) and tuberculocidal disinfectant solution for 10 minutes after each use. After disinfection they must be rinsed, dried thoroughly with a clean paper towel, and placed in a dry, predisinfected, nonairtight covered receptacle, cabinet or drawer, or left in an EPA-registered disinfectant/storage system used according to manufacturer’s directions.
