- ImmunizationsThe physical exam is much like what your general practitioner provides, except many patients find it more convenient to take care of this during their well-woman exam. Your gynecologist will review your medical and vaccination history, current medications, and ask about any current issues. They will check your vital signs, weight, blood pressure, heartbeat, lungs, head, neck, thyroid, abdomen, and reflexes. Sometimes, they may ask for blood work to check your cholesterol, blood sugars, and more. They may also discuss how your diet and exercise affect your health and recommend lifestyle changes you may want to implement for your overall wellness.
- GynecologyPelvic exams help detect early-stage cancers, sexually transmitted diseases, and causes of inflammation. During your gynecology exam, your doctor will examine the size and position of your ovaries, uterus, cervix, vagina, vulva, and fallopian tubes. Pelvic exams often reveal cysts, infections, abnormal vaginal discharge, genital warts, irritation, and other issues. Women 21 and over should get a yearly pelvic exam. Those under 21 should get one if experiencing menstrual disorders, vaginal discharge, or pelvic pain. If you’re concerned you may have a yeast infection or a sexually transmitted disease, be sure to discuss this with your gynecologist during your pelvic exam.

- PregnancyAs soon as you discover you are pregnant, we encourage you to schedule your prenatal care at our Dallas pregnancy care center. We offer all antenatal care, including ultrasounds available in all three trimesters. For your peace of mind, we also offer non-invasive pregnancy testing for genetic errors (NIPT). This type of testing primarily looks for chromosomal disorders caused by missing or extra chromosomes, which include Down syndrome, Patau syndrome, Edwards syndrome, and others. NIPT is a form of screening, meaning it is used to predict whether your baby is at risk for genetic abnormalities. The results are not guaranteed, and follow-up testing is usually required to confirm the diagnosis. For the most accurate results, we do not suggest this screening until after the 10th week of pregnancy.
- Labor and DeliveryChanges as they age, bringing with them a feeling of pelvic pressure or heaviness. Some Dallas women even report feeling like something is “falling out of the vagina.” These symptoms sometimes indicate pelvic support problems, or prolapse, and can require pelvic reconstruction. Broadly, we call this uncomfortable and sometimes embarrassing constellation of symptoms “pelvic support problems,” a condition that occurs when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weakened or damaged, often due to childbirth. Other causes include repeated heavy lifting, chronic disease, or surgery. If you’re struggling with pelvic support problems, your Dallas Walnut Hill OBGYN can treat the problem.
- Cervical CancerA pap smear is the most common way to test for early signs of cervical cancer and is usually performed during a pelvic exam. During a pap smear, we gently scrape cells from your cervix to test them in a lab.

- MRIBreast exams help detect breast cancer signs early enough to make a difference in treatment. During your breast exam, your gynecologist will look for lumps or irregularities in your breasts. They will also teach you how to perform a self-examination in-between visits. Women between 20 and 39 without a family history of breast cancer or significant risk factors should get a breast exam every 1-3 years. Those 40 and above should get a breast exam – along with a mammogram (breast X-ray) – every year. Women with dense breast tissue or breast implants may need breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) instead of a mammogram for the most accurate results.

- MammographyThe National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. notes, on average, every two minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States and breast cancer is one of the most common cancers in American women. However, breast cancer does not mean a death sentence and is treatable when detected early. Mammograms are the #1 tools used to screen and detect early signs of breast cancer. New to our practice is an on-site, state-of-the-art 3D screening mammography program. This service will allow patients the convenience of completing their invaluable annual mammography screening during the same visit as their annual well woman’s exam thereby increasing compliance resulting in early detection – critical in the treatment of breast cancer. Below is a quick Q & A to aid in your understanding of this important service.

- Reconstructive SurgeryThe procedure of choice for reconstructive surgery to the vagina should be tailored to the individual patient, and your doctor will discuss an appropriate treatment plan for you. Reconstructive surgery reconstructs the pelvic floor with the goal of restoring the organs to their original position. Some types of reconstructive surgery are done through an incision in the vagina. Others are done through an incision in the abdomen or with laparoscopy.
- Laparoscopic SurgeryFor those who may still hope to become pregnant or have failed to find relief from endometriosis pain with other treatments, surgery may be recommended. This often involves laparoscopic surgery, which is similar to the process typically used to diagnose endometriosis.
