- Deep Tissue MassageSciatic pain can very often be relieved through a treatment combination that includes chiropractic care, stretching, and deep tissue massage (trigger point therapy) of the piriformis muscle. If the piriformis muscles are identified as the main culprits, the pain is chronic, and if the combined treatment of Chiropractic, stretching and deep tissue massage is not effective, then a trigger point injection may be recommended, whereby a small amount of anesthetic is injected directly into the muscle to help break the cycle of spasms, however this is considered extremely rare.
- Chiropractic AdjustmentsA series of chiropractic adjustments prior to hitting the slopes can reduce the risk of severe injury,” says Dr. Friedman. “When the spine is out of alignment the individual loses muscle mobility and dexterity, creating potential hazards on the slopes to themselves and others. When the spine is misaligned, the muscles in the lower back, legs and knees do not function at maximum capacity. The muscles are forced to work against the body instead of with it; in practical terms this means the muscles become exhausted and fail to move as rapidly as they would otherwise. When an accident occurs, and the body is out of alignment, the muscles have less mobility and elasticity to sustain the fall. What could be a minor injury often becomes a disastrous one because the muscles are unable to absorb the fall or twist?
- Spinal AdjustmentsAttention Hyperactivity Deficit Disorder is another childhood condition that chiropractors help to treat. While no legitimate chiropractor would ever claim to be able to “cure” ADHD, there are certain treatments that can help children to feel less restless, to exhibit better impulse control, ad a have greater focus in the classroom. Because chiropractic zooms in on wellness, again chiropractic pediatric specialists do not use prescription medications, but instead use spinal adjustment to help children. Chiropractic care can be used at the same time as medications, however–there is no need to use only one or the other.
- SubluxationMVA’s are a very common way for people to acquire subluxations and muscle imbalance due to the impact. In addition to the structural changes that occur following an accident, there is a significant amount of damage that can occur at the “soft tissue” level. The whiplash injury to the neck, or cervical sprain/strain, is by far the most common injury that results from a car accident. Sprains and strains are referred to as soft tissue injuries (soft tissue includes muscles, tendons, and ligaments).
- Manipulation TherapyIn a recent study a group of asymptomatic university baseball players were split into 2 groups; one group received spinal manipulation while their counterparts acted as controls by receiving no care. Vertical jump, broad jump, standing broad jump, muscle strength, blood pressure, pulse rate, microcirculation (nail bed capillary counts) and stress test were evaluated in all athletes prior to the study, as well as a 5 & 14 week follow- up. Those receiving spinal manipulation experienced significant improvements in muscle strength and long jump distance at 14 weeks. The spinal manipulation group also experienced improvement in capillary counts at 5 and 14 weeks follow-up. Additionally, the spinal manipulation group had decreases in resting blood pressure and pulse rate following tread mill activity.
- Myofascial TherapySoft Tissue Therapy (Muscle Work, Myofascial Release, Nimmo, Trigger Point Therapy): Soft tissue therapy is a conservative and natural treatment to help relieve neuromuscular pain. Soft tissue therapy helps improve blood circulation, range of motion, and increase endorphin levels. Therapy is tailored to meet each patient’s condition and needs.
- Therapeutic ExerciseMany athletes seek chiropractic care, whether professionals or weekend warriors, to enhance their sports performance. Through the use of highly specific and safe spinal and extremity adjustment techniques, therapeutic exercises and stretches, and correction of biomechanical faults, athletes can experience increased performance and reduced risk of injury. Chiropractic care can increase range of motion, flexibility, balance, coordination, joint proprioception, body symmetry, agility, reaction times, speed, and kinesthetic awareness.
- Pediatric ChiropracticPediatric care isn’t new for chiropractic medicine, but it is gaining followers. According to the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association, pediatric patients can be helped with a host of problems, including ADHD, ear infections, coordination problems, headaches, general wellness, autism, sleeping problems, food allergies, asthma, and other acute and chronic conditions children face during childhood.
- AcupunctureRecently, there has been a keen interest in complementary or alternative medical solutions to medical problems. The research on these methods has shown some positive results in the scientific trials that have been conducted. There has been an increase in the number of patients using acupuncture to find relief from pain. Treatment with acupuncture has also been sanctioned by some health insurance companies which means that patients do not have to pay out of their pockets for treatment with alternative methods. This is very good news for people that do not find relief at their local doctor.
