- Child SupportWe resolve conflict. We can help you avoid litigation or we can help you move forward with changes you want to make to your Final Decree or SAPCR. Whether the reason is to increase or decrease a child support obligation, make changes in insurance requirements, change your children’s visitation or transportation schedule or seek a change in conservatorship, we can help.
- Child Custody and VisitationMany solutions involve using the court’s power to take property or finances directly from an uncooperative ex-spouse. However, some cases of an uncooperative ex can involve child custody, such as an ex who refuses to follow visitation schedules. The court may enforce the order by limiting your ex’s custody rights, revoke certain licenses, refuse to renew their passport, among other things. Texas family law courts take child custody and support violations very seriously and use a variety of severe methods to enforce such orders.
- AdoptionMany couples dream of becoming a parent of their own child, but a large number face infertility. While many use an adoption agency when adopting an infant, couples hoping to adopt often turn to a legal professional for older children and step-parent adoptions.
- GuardianshipEstate Planning is a legal process used to protect your property from a variety of unknowns. Do you have assets that you want protected from creditors or from a family member who cannot manage money? Do you have underage children that will need special protection and for whom you want to provide for so that they are ensured of financial security and a college education, or a startup in setting up a business. I can help you tailor Estate documents to fit your needs. In addition to simple Wills, I may prepare Durable Powers of Attorney for Health Care, for Business or Personal Property assets, Directives to Physicians/Living Wills, and Designations of Guardianship over the person (and children) or the property of the Estate. If your Estate is of sufficient size, perhaps a Will with pour over provisions into a Trust is more appropriate for your situation. If your Estate exceeds Federal Estate taxation guidelines, I can help you set up a Trust that can defer and reduce the amount of debt owed by your Estate. To the extent that assets are held in a Trust will often keep them private, or out of the public eye. If made irrevocable, the assets are protected from creditors in most cases.
- Spousal SupportIf child, medical or spousal support is more than 30 days past due, we can file to collect, but the court is required to award you attorney fees at the time of judgment (finalization). This is not discretionary as it often is at time of divorce, modification or the finalization of a SAPCR.
