NL Industries, through its majority owned subsidiary CompX International, engages in the manufacture and sale of precision ball-bearing slides for office furniture, tool cabinets, refrigerators and desk drawers; locking mechanisms for banking, vending and vehicle applications; and ergonomic computer support systems. It sells its products to original equipment manufacturers and distributors in North America and Taiwan. In addition, CompX offers its engineering and design capabilities for the design and manufacture of products on a proprietary basis for its customers. NL also owns a significant interest in Kronos Worldwide, a global producer and marketer of value-added titanium dioxide pigments. TiO2 is used to enhance whiteness, brightness or opacity in a variety of products in the coatings, plastics, paper and other industrial and consumer markets. Founded in 1891, NL Industries is headquartered in Dallas. It is a subsidiary of Valhi.
