General Info
Dr. Thomas W Lucas is an Adjunct Professor of Psychiatry at the Texas A&M College of Medicine-Dallas and teaches Neuropsychiatry and Psychopharmacology in the Thorntree based Texas A&M Medical Student clinical clerkship. Dr. Lucas graduated from Oklahoma State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Pre-Medical Sciences. He then completed his Doctorate in Medicine at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine followed there by his Internship in Neurology, Internal Medicine and Psychiatry. He completed his Residency in Adult Psychiatry at the Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital with affiliate studies in Neurology at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital and School of Medicine, in Baltimore, Maryland. He is certified in Adult Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and specializes in Adult and Geriatric Neuropsychiatry. Dr. Lucas served on active duty as a Medical Officer in the United States Army European Command. He then had a long career in the Army Reserve including working as a Special Operations Medical Officer in the 12th Special Forces Group (Airborne). He later received the Meritorious Service Medal for his work as Command Surgeon, 95th Division (Training). He completed his active reserve military service with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He returned to the University of Oklahoma as Clinical Associate Professor of Psychiatry and was awarded the Gordon H. Deckert Chairman’s Award for Sustained Excellence in Medical Teaching for his work as a clerkship site director for third-year medical students as well as for the development of the Advanced Psychopharmacology course for senior residents. Dr. Lucas has served as Hospital Medical Director at several psychiatric hospital facilities in Texas and Oklahoma as well as the Adult Psychiatric Intensive Unit Service Chief at the Timberlawn Mental Health Center in Dallas.
