- Oral Cancer ScreeningDid you know that approximately 36,000 people will be diagnosed with oral cancer this year, according to statistics from the American Cancer Society? Unfortunately, nearly 7,000 of them will die from the disease. Oral cancer has a higher death rate because it’s often not caught until it has spread elsewhere in the body. Vigilance on the patient’s part is a significant factor in achieving a positive outcome after an oral cancer diagnosis. If you’re able to spot concerning symptoms early, the disease will respond better to treatment, and it will be less likely to metastasize. Our oral surgeons at Oral Surgery Associates of North Texas provide various oral cancer screening services, which may include visual examinations, biopsies, and more to detect oral cancer early enough for our patients to benefit from treatment.
- CrownsOur oral surgeons place dental implants in a brief outpatient procedure that is completed in a matter of hours. Earlier dental implants required a return visit approximately six months after implant placement to uncover the implants then place the prosthetic, but advances in the devices have led to single-stage dental implants, which can be loaded with crowns in a matter of weeks.
- Bridges
- DenturesA small amount of bleeding is to be expected following the operation. If bleeding occurs, place a gauze pad directly over the bleeding socket and apply biting pressure for 30 minutes. If bleeding continues, a moist tea bag can be used for 30 minutes. If bleeding occurs, avoid hot liquids, exercise, and elevate the head. If bleeding persists, call our office immediately. Do not remove immediate denture unless the bleeding is severe. Expect some oozing around the side of the denture.
- Dental ImplantsPatients who have lost a tooth (or multiple teeth) have a number of treatment options for replacing that tooth. Increasingly, patients are opting for dental implants, which offer longevity and stability that is unparalleled by other tooth replacement devices.
- Oral SurgeryAt Oral Surgery Associates of North Texas, we make every effort to provide you with the finest care and the most convenient financial options. To accomplish this we work hand-in-hand with you to maximize your insurance reimbursement for covered procedures. The most common misunderstanding concerning insurance is the belief that your policy will cover the total cost of surgical fees charged. Please be aware that insurance is designed to reduce your cost, not eliminate it. Most insurance companies will respond within four to six weeks.
- Jaw SurgeryWhen someone deals with malocclusions, their upper and lower jaws develop at different rates. An injury or congenital defect can usually be the cause of these issues arising in the first place. They sometimes can be addressed by utilizing orthodontic appliances, especially for younger children whose jaws are not quite fully developed. Other patients will need to undergo orthognathic surgery, which is a corrective procedure to reposition the misaligned jaws.
- Maxillofacial SurgeryHe is currently an attending physician at Forest Park Medical Center and previously a Clinical Assistant Professor at Baylor College of Dentistry. He is licensed in Texas in both dentistry and medicine. Dr. Finn is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and a Fellow in the American College of Dentists.
- Tooth ExtractionsAfter tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That’s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing still persists, place another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times.
- Bone GraftingIf you’ve elected to receive a dental implant but have found you’re ineligible due to bone loss in your jaw, our signature jaw bone grafting procedures can provide a solution. Bone grafting is a common dental procedure that can restore jaw bone mass and soft tissue needed to perform a tooth implant. Jaw bone grafting has been perfected over the last several decades and can utilize both the patient’s own bone, a donor bone or synthetic material. Our team of maxillofacial specialists can effectively restore the bone in your jaw to its previous state, restore your normal facial structure and form and appearance and prepare your mouth for a successful dental implant. - OrthodonticsOur practice utilizes state-of-the-art, full-cranial cone-beam CT (computed tomography) technology that provides highly accurate 3D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning and treatment of oral surgery. This technology provides full-cranial, highly accurate 3D radiographic images for the diagnosis, planning and treatment of orthodontics, implantology, oral and orthognathic surgery and other dental procedures. Undistorted, anatomically correct views of the jaws, teeth and facial bones along with cross-sectional (bucco-lingual), axial, coronal, sagittal, cephalometric and panoramic views are easily generated. Three-dimensional images enable a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with 2D technologies.
- BracesYour canine or “eye teeth†are located between your incisors and pre-molars. When they become impacted, they no longer have the space to move down from your gum line and align with the rest of your teeth. The removal of a baby tooth or the use of an orthodontic device, like specially designed braces can make room for the impacted tooth to move into the correct position. The process of making room in your mouth for the impacted canine can take months as your canines are more substantial than other teeth, but we can ensure the process is convenient and painless. Another option is to surgically move the canine within the gums, anchoring it to specially designed braces and making room for it position correctly into your mouth. No matter the course of action that best suits your needs, we’ll ensure you’re more than happy with the results. Call us today to schedule a dental evaluation.
