The Bureau of Fire works to preserve and protect lives and property through fire suppression and prevention, advanced life support and search and rescue services. It is responsible for management of fire service-related activities, building inspections and code enforcement activities. The supports an executive fire officer program at the national fire academy that offers certification courses and conducts classes on various topics, such as hazardous material awareness, vehicle extrication and in-house fire and rescue training classes. The Bureau of Fire administers smoke detector, juvenile fire setters and fourth grade fire safety programs, as well as conducts home safety surveys. It is located in Hopewell, VA.
