The California Department of Social Services is comprised of more than 4,200 employees and works to protect children and adults in the state. The department maintains over 50 offices and nearly 55 county welfare departments. It serves low-income individuals and people with disabilities. The department s Children and Family Services Division offers assistance with adoption, foster care and child welfare. The California Department of Social Services also operates the Community Care Licensing Division, which provides oversight and enforcement for approximately 85,000 licensed facilities statewide. The department also ensures compliance with the state and federal civil rights mandates. Through its state-funded Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants, it serves senior citizens and individuals with disabilities.
