Established in 1977, the Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs is devoted to the development, implementation and monitoring of community-based programs and services for seniors. The Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs is also designated as planning and services area agency on aging under the provisions of the Older Americans Act. The agency, through its community partners, serves the needs of more than 200,000 seniors and adults with disabilities. It provides adult day, case management, mental health, home care, and food and legal assistance services. The agency protective services unit is responsible for investigating complaints of elderly abuse. The Rhode Island Department of Elderly Affairs is located in Cranston, R.I.
