The vehicle that is used is a "secret" sort of speak, from the financial world, but has been going on for the last 100 years. It's a high cash valued insurance product that the banks use. 95 out of 100 agents don't even know about it because it's not as highly commissioned as the rest. It doesn't get tought in the insurance world because only a handful of insurance companies offer it, the companies are mutually owned and have been the backbone of our country the last 100 plus years. When a loan is taken out, the death benefit goes down and the money loaned is from the general fund of the company, not your cash value. Essentially the plan goes very well, with many testimonies through the years, and can be the legacy of the family. Basically, your bank can be dispersed at any time(usually retirement)with tax-free access, probate free, solid rate of return, and with a large death benefit.
