General Info

Lutheran services were held in Corry as early as 1867. Services were held in the school house or in member's homes. Services were conducted in the German language until 1902. The first church was erected in 1876-1877. It was described as a skeleton brick structure 20 by 40 feet. The total cost was $2, 140 with most of the materials and cost provided by Henry Keppel. With the influx of new members coming from Jamestown, NY to work at the Corry- Jamestown Corporation, founded by D. A. Hillstrom, the first church proved to be too small, and in 1922, our present church was erected. The cost including the organ was $35, 000. In 1954 the present parsonage was completed, and the first pastor to occupy the house was Elmer Ortner and his family. The Parish house was completed in 1960-1961 at a cost of $125, 000. The first pastor of St. Paul's was Carl Jaeckel. The first pastor after becoming an English speaking church was R.E. McDaniel Ph.D. Pastors following included William Hall, E.L. Wagner, Clinton Hildebrand, Harry S. Bowman, Elmer A. Ortner, George Vetter, Patrick Maier, Robert Braband and Ralph Jones. In June of 2002, Pastor Brian K. Eiss, gave his first sermon after accepting a call on April 10, 2002. Pastor Eiss initiated a contemporary service on March 14, 2003. As a community of faith, St. Paul's is continually searching for ways to serve God and our community as we look toward a spirit led future together.
