Classical Chinese Medicine ( CCM ) is a comprehensive medical system that has been utilized for thousands of years in China and around the world to treat all types of illness. Since its introduction to the West, it has proven its effectiveness and its ability to enhance and complement Western medical treatments. CCM includes the practice of, and internal martial art forms such as Qi Gong and Tai Chi. CCM treatments may also include Cupping, Moxibustion, Guasha, and Tuina. The theories of CCM are based on observations of nature, and were originally formulated and recorded by the ancient shamen, monks, astrologers, philosophers, and healers in China. The ancients discovered that our body's internal environment is intimately and inherently connected to our external environment. We are affected by the seasons of nature just as we affect nature. The CCM practitioner takes this into account when coming up with a treatment plan for her patients.China's rich literary history has provided modern practitioners with an extensive classical medical canon upon which our modern treatments are based. CCM as it is practiced today is based on an intimate knowledge of its ancient origins along with a keen understanding of modern Western medical treatments, pharmacopoeia, and diagnosis.
