General Info
One size does not fit all in choosing our shoes, so why would we ever accept it in our therapy? I believe in taking the time to get to know you and to find out what you want for yourself. I draw upon my training and experience with numerous modalities (see below) to bring you an integrative therapeutic approach that is supportive and respectful of where you are and where you want to go. All of my treatment is highly trauma-informed, which means that I take into account the role of difficult and overwhelming experiences from the past and how they may be affecting your current experience. I believe in pacing treatment to fit what your system can tolerate at the time, without causing undo distress. If there are issues in your life that are difficult or painful to discuss, I will take the time to help you feel calm, relaxed, grounded, and safe in addressing what you want to talk about. You will always have voice and choice about where the therapy goes. You are the captain, and I am the co-pilot. I believe that humans are highly adaptive and that most behaviors and “symptoms” were developed as a response to life circumstances that felt outside our control. For instance, if you grew up in an unpredictable environment, it made sense to be always on the alert, not trust people, or learn to “zone out” to avoid pain. However, these approaches to life can also limit our enjoyment, disrupt our relationships, and cause us to feel stuck. Fortunately, the human being is also naturally wired for healing, and by activating the healing response and processing old wounds, people can feel more freed up from the past and ready to move forward with renewed hope and energy.
