- GlaucomaGlaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness in the world. Glaucoma has been named the “silent thief of the night,” because there is no pain or symptoms until the disease is advanced enough to be making an impact on your vision. There is currently no cure, but it can be controlled, if detected early. Treatment includes eye drops and laser treatment to lower eye pressure, as well as surgery in advanced cases.

- CataractsAge is the cause of any number of physical ailments. Not even your eyes can escape aging which is why people develop cataracts. The outer surface of your eye is called the cornea; behind this sit the iris and pupil which work together to let in different amounts of light, which is then focused and filtered through the lens. The lens of our eye may gradually become cloudy, which can cause obstructed vision and at times scatter light as it enters the eye, resulting in blurriness that glasses cannot improve. Often these changes begin in your early forties and fifties, but do not become noticeable until sixty or older.
- Cataract SurgeryOver 90%of patients have a cataract by the age of 65, and 50% of patients ages 75 to 85 have lost some vision due to their cataract. While cataracts are rarely dangerous, they are progressive, so after a number of years they will likely affect your vision enough for you to consider cataract surgery. Risk factors that raise your likelihood for cataracts including diabetes, hypertension, obesity, smoking, hormone replacement therapy, significant alcohol consumption, and high myopia (nearsightedness).
- Eye ExamOur eye doctors check your vision, inspect your eyes for irregularities, and determine if LASIK is the right choice. Ocular health is a determining factor when choosing LASIK, and it’s critical that you have a comprehensive eye exam before undergoing the surgery.Â
