Founded in 1896, Benton Elementary School provides a range of academic services to more than 250 students in pre-kindergarten through grade five. It offers classes in reading, writing, science, math, English, music, social studies, computer technology, physical education and language arts. The school provides Title I and special education programs for gifted and talented students. It maintains a library media center that stocks books, periodicals and newspapers, as well as provides links to search engines. The school supplies a variety of stationery items, such as pencils, glues, crayons, markers, tapes, pocket folders, pencil sharpeners and erasers. Its staff includes custodians, nurses, counselors and speech therapists. The school is a part of Columbia Public Schools, which is a school district that governs a range of elementary, middle and high schools.
