Otero County Electric Cooperative started with headquarters in the Texas Hotel in Cloudcroft, N.M., which has become the Antique Shop. The company has expanded to include Carrizozo and Alto counties. The total of miles of line stands at more than 2,400, compared to 76 in 1941. Otero County Electric serves more than 16,000 meters throughout the four counties of Otero, Lincoln, Chaves and Socorro. The company has 51 full-time and three part-time employees. Otero County Electric Cooperative provides its members with a variety of products and services from surge protection equipment to rebates for installing energy-efficient space and water-heating equipment and informational presentations. Otero County Electric Cooperative has been serving Cloudcroft since 1939.
