Founded in 1984, Carolina Care Plan, formerly known as Physicians Health Plan, is one of the largest health maintenance organizations in southern Carolina. It offers a range of group and individual health insurance products and wellness programs. The company provides group health coverage for several statewide associations. It administers the Carolina Direct plan, which serves children, individuals and adults. Carolina Care Plan offers the SuperWell Disease and Maternity Management program, which serves pregnant women diagnosed with chronic conditions. It is managed by Medical Mutual of Ohio, which is one of the oldest and largest health insurance companies in Ohio. Founded in 1934, Medical Mutual of Ohio serves more than 1.5 million health care customers. It employs a work force of over 2,700 people and maintains operations in nearly 10 locations in Ohio.
