They bill themselves as being the only 'Certified' Kenpo Karate School in Chicago; actually they're the 'ONLY' Kenpo School. I studied a blended version of kenpo many years ago and hadn't been able to find anyone in the city that teaches exclusively this style. Kenpo is the perfect combination of real self defense - not sparring - and classical martial arts. it has strikes, joint locks, throws, jujitsu applications, forms (katas) and weapons training.The combination of private lessons and unlimited group classes, at the price they charge, cannot be beat. There are some schools on the northside teaching group classes only for as much, and in some cases more, than Self Defense Centers charges.They are very knowledgable and helpful and never make you feel like you're not doing something correct. I don't know how he has the patience? Check them out... you'll be glad you did.
