Mihir K. Bhayani, MD, FACS, is a head and neck oncologic surgeon in the Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Rush University Medical Center. He serves as Director of the Rush Head and Neck Cancer Research Program and Salivary Gland Program. He completed his training at the University of Chicago and University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. He is board certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Bhayani truly believes in delivering equitable cancer treatment to patients without significantcompromise of their quality of life. His research interests include a focus on cancer care disparities and quality of life after cancer treatment. He has more than 30 publications on these topics in numerous prestigious journals including Cancer and International Journal of Cancer. He has authored eight textbook chapters. He has lectured nationally and internationally on topics such as minimally invasive head and surgery and sentinel lymph node biopsy. Dr. Bhayani has also served on the Writers’ Task Force for the American Board of Otolaryngology written examand currently serves on the Rare Tumors Task Force for the National Cancer Institute. Dr. Bhayani’s clinical expertise spans the field of head and neck surgery, including using state-of-the-art robotic approaches for tumors in the throat and minimally invasive salivary surgery to spare salivary gland excision. In addition, Dr. Bhayani specializes in thyroid and parathyroid disease. He provides in-office biopsy of thyroid nodules and uses molecular diagnostics to personalize a patient’s thyroid surgery.
