Established in 1857 as the Chicago Relief and Aid Society, the Metropolitan Family Services provides a wide range of social and support services to low- and moderate-income families. The agency offers various services, such as psychiatric counseling, medication management, crisis intervention, legal assistance, financial literacy training, respite care and public education campaigns. It also offers after-school programs, child welfare and support services to senior citizens. It operates an employee assistance network, which offers personal and financial counseling, stress management workshops and referral services. Additionally, the agency conducts lobbying activities with the government on social policy issues. It organizes fundraising events, such as dinner parties, auctions and raffles.
