He also has worked in the public sector as a judicial law clerk in the Illinois Appellate Court, as appellate counsel with the Office of the Illinois State Appellate Defender, and as a trial attorney with the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, where he was a member of that office’s elite Murder Task Force. He was among the first attorneys admitted by the Illinois Supreme Court to its Capital Litigation Trial Bar. He also has been appointed to serve as Learned Counsel in federal death penalty litigation.

  Following a three-week bench trial, DMG lawyers Sean Sullivan, Kathryn Doi and Pam Nehring secured a defense judgment for client BNSF in an environmental property damage case arising from the release of up to 7,000 gallons of diesel fuel.  Plaintiff, an adjacent property owner, sought $6.2 million in damages and extensive cleanup of its property.  On April 25, 2018, the court issued a 28-page judgment order fully accepting BNSF’s forensic evidence and arguments, and finding that plaintiff failed to carry the burden of proof as to breach of duty, proximate cause or damages.
