Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, created by the Maryland General Assembly in 1927, develops and operates public park systems throughout Maryland. It provides land use design and planning for the development of parks, natural habitat centers, historical sites, sports venue and recreational centers in Montgomery and Prince George counties. It provides various amenities in its parks, such as playgrounds, swimming pool, picnic and fishing areas, jogging tracks, historic lighthouses, restrooms, basketball and volleyball courts, education centers, and walking trails. The commission administers a park system of more than 52,000 acres, and organizes special cultural and social events for senior citizens. The parks offer traditional health and fitness centers, water attractions, children areas, parades, restaurants, game venues, and merchandise outlets to visitors. The commission offers its services for wedding receptions, social gatherings, reunions and business meetings. Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission is located in Chevy Chase, Md.
