Established in 1996, Shared Opportunity Service is a nonprofit organization that provides a range of family support services that focus on self-sufficiency, parent education, children s programming, in-home visiting, peer support and wellness education. The organization operates the Kent Family Center, which features a child development room that provides parents with opportunities to interact with their children and practice parenting techniques. The center offers English language instruction, as well aschild care and literacy activities for young children. It provides job search materials, resume writing software and workshops to assist individuals in finding employment. In addition, the Kent Family Center provides opportunities for participant families to expand social interactions and participate in field trips, crafts classes, and exercise and recreational activities. Shared Opportunity Service is located in Chestertown, Md.
