The Vermont State Police Department is a full-service statewide law enforcement agency that protects residents lives, their property and individual rights, as well as maintains peace and order. It undertakes various criminal cases and works with other state, local and federal agencies to ensure the safety of exchange of information between law enforcement officers and the public. The Vermont State Police operates a criminal division that is comprised of homeland security and special investigations units, as well as a bureau of criminal investigations. The agency also has field force, support services, and recreational enforcement and education units. Headquartered in Waterbury, Vt., the Vermont State Police maintains a station in Chester, Vt.
