- Pediatric CareWe’ve worked closely with Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital and its wonderful staff for more than 30 years. Anesthesiologists are on call for epidurals or any other surgical needs that may arise, and the pediatrics team and nursery staff are able to provide excellent care for newborn babies.
- Family Practice“The docs at Jefferson Ob/Gyn have a collaborative approach to patient care. We discuss care issues and come to a consensus when we see variations among providers. Importantly, however, at the core of our approach is a consistent desire to treat pregnancy as natural and healthy condition, not a disease process. We are parents and patients, too. We interact with patients the way we would like to interact with our doctors. We are all collectors of current, prior and family health histories, applying that information to inform patients of potential problems. Pregnancy and delivery are fluid events, we walk with our patients providing guidance and reassurance. There are 8 of us, that is a lot of experience!”
- Emergency CareYou should call the office if you experience bleeding during the first trimester. The nurse will review your bleeding with you and talk to you about the next steps. Most episodes of vaginal bleeding in the first trimester do not require a visit to the Emergency Room. If your bleeding occurs when the office is closed and you think you need to go the Emergency Room, you should first page the doctor on call. They can advise you if an Emergency Room visit is needed.
- ImmunizationsWe recommend that all pregnant women receive the Tdap vaccine for pertussis. Pertussis is the virus that causes whooping cough. There has been an increase in whooping cough outbreaks. Infants that develop whooping cough can require hospitalization and can develop life-threatening respiratory illnesses. You can help protect your infant against whooping cough by being immunized during each pregnancy between 27 and 36 weeks. Other individuals that will be living in the house with your baby or who will be having frequent contact with your baby should have had the vaccine within the last 10 years. Please ask us if you have additional questions about the Tdap vaccine. Please notify your provider if this test has not been offered to you after 28 weeks.
