Established in 1882, Congregation Beth Israel provides Charlottesville, Albemarle and surrounding counties in Virginia with a Jewish environment in which people can study, worship, socialize and take part in helping others. Congregation Beth Israel offers both reform and conservative worship services. Monthly family services geared towards families with grade school children are organized at the congregation and are followed by potluck dinners. It also offers Shabbat morning services that include activities, such as learning how to lead sections of the service, chanting a Haftarah or sections of the Torah, and delivering a D'var Torah. The congregation s staff offers various services to support and help facilitate formal and informal Jewish learning for the congregation s members and the community.
