Established in 1892, The Valley of the Sun YMCA is one of the largest nonprofit human services agencies in the state of Arizona. The agency is a certified member of the National Council of Young Men s Christian Associations of the United States of America. It has more than 1,000 full and part-time employees and serves more than 40,000 members and guests each month. The Valley of the Sun YMCA organizes wellness programs for physical fitness and character development. The agency provides assistance with leadership, learning and problem solving skills. It offers counseling to develop age-appropriate social skills, maintain self-esteem and not engage in antisocial behaviors. The Valley of the Sun YMCA also conducts sessions in swimming lessons and water safety and water sports skills. The agency additionally hosts state-licensed day camps that feature a curriculum, including horseback riding, field trips and adventurous activities.
