- Dental CareThis is an area that is extremely exciting to us because studies clearly show that pets lives are extended by 10%-20% if they receive the appropriate dental care throughout their lives. Pets need dental care too. We recommend regular teeth brushing for dogs and a professional teeth cleaning with us at least once a year though we prefer that this be done twice a year for all pets. Routine preventative dental care and cleaning will not only help keep your pet healthy, it will also help keep their breath fresh. We offer a discount on these services in February and September.
- VaccinationVaccinating your pet against contagious diseases and viruses is a significant commitment to your pet’s well being and quality of life. Preventative care is the best kind of care. We develop an individual program for your pet at your first visit with us and we fully explain the vaccinations needed and why. As with humans, vaccinations are developed for some of the worst diseases affecting our pets. Many of the vaccinations are given in a series to help build up the appropriate immunity for your pet. Your pet will not be immune from the disease or virus until the whole series of vaccinations is complete. If the breeder gave you any information concerning vaccinations already given to your new pet, be sure to bring these in to your first visit with us.

- Comprehensive ExaminationOne calendar year is equivalent to five to seven years in a pet’s life. An annual exam is often the one opportunity we have all year to ensure that they continue to live a healthy life. Annual physical exams help us build a medical history of your pet which can be life saving should an emergency or sudden illness occur. These annual exams also help us identify and catch any changes to your pet’s overall general health early enough to make a difference in controlling any illness or condition. As part of an annual physical exam, we examine your pet from the tip of their nose to the tip of their tail. Some of the things we do include...
- Parasites Treatment and ControlHeartworm is a blood parasite that is transmitted to our pets by mosquitoes. The parasite begins its life cycle in the blood stream and lives in the heart as an adult. A heartworm infection decreases cardiac function and can cause permanent, irreversible damage to the heart. Left untreated heartworm disease can be fatal.

She has completed the avian and small mammal medicine program at the U of M, is a member of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, and has completed an externship with the Raptor Center. She is excited to bring her experience with exotic animals to Champlin Park Pet Hospital and start seeing small mammals and birds. She also has a special interest in dental health and dental surgery. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband, two children, and guinea pig (Mordecai). During her free time she enjoys walking the lakes, canoeing, sewing, and spending time with her family.
- Veterinary SurgeryAt Champlin Park Pet Hospital we offer routine or elective surgeries including spays, neuters, declaws and lump removals. We also offer non-elective surgery including abdominal and thoracic surgery as well as some orthopedic procedures.
- DeclawingThe most common elective surgeries for our pets include the ovariohysterectomy of female pets, neuter of male pets, and the declawing of cats.
- Spaying and NeuteringThe benefits of neutering your male pet include the elimination of the possibility of testicular tumors and a decrease in the likelihood of prostrate hyperplasia or cancer, decreased spraying behavior and less of a desire to roam or get into fights with other pets. They tend to be less aggressive towards people as well.

- Dental RadiologyWe partner with you by examining your pet’s teeth at least once a year along with annual dental cleanings. Just like humans there can be concerns below the gum line that is not visible to the naked eye. We now have digital dental radiography to catch any issues early so that they can be addressed as part of our commitment to your pet’s health. This allows us to identify hidden problems under the gum line, prevent additional tooth loss, prevent pain and discomfort, and overall extend the life of your pet. We want to work together with you to continue to keep your pet healthy.
- Senior Pet CareWe wish our pets could live for ever young, and we don’t want to see them grow older. Old age in a pet is influenced by their size and their breed. Small dogs for instance often don’t begin to age as quickly as larger dogs.
