- Pediatric CareYes, this truly is a 'family practice', Gina has been working at The Pet Pro since 1998. Prior to this, she worked at Carle Hospital, Urbana, IL in Pediatrics for 2 years, then Adult Medicine for 8 years. Gina enjoyed the 'people' side of medicine, but has also always been drawn to animal care. It seemed a right fit to cross over to animal medicine, so that she could work with Todd and also bring their daughter (Taylor) to work each day when she was growing up. And, of course, she loves the ability to bring her dogs to work. How perfect is that?? It does not get any better as far as Gina is concerned. Much like the human pediatric patient, the nurse must rely upon the parents for their observation skills of their much loved family member. Working with these parents, whether human, canine or feline, is most interesting to Gina, as well as the entire staff at The Pet Pro.

- Emergency CareWe have a veterinarian and personnel on duty 6 days a week who are trained and equipped to handle any urgent care your pet needs. Usually an emergency team consists of a veterinarian and one or more technicians working together to save a pet's life. Emergencies can be things such as your furry family member being hit by a car, or eating food or non-food items that he or she shouldn't. This might be chocolate, a sock, or even a squeaker out of a stuffed dog toy. If you ever feel that your pet needs emergency treatment do not hesitate to text us or come in immediately. Another option is to call the University of Illinois Small Animal Emergency Clinic at (217)333-5300.
- ImmunizationsYour pet's annual vet check-up will include a total physical exam, with a thorough investigation of your pet's head, body and tail, and all their assorted cavities. Because even the most cooperative pet may not readily go-along with a tooth and gum brushing, an annual cleaning by your veterinarian maybe in order. Like you, your pet can lose his teeth due to decay and neglect. It's a good idea to keep an accurate medical diary not only of the procedures and vaccinations your pet receives at the vet, but also of notes on things like your pet's elimination habits and any physical changes or unusual occurrences. Keep track of small shifts in your pet's behavior, including urinary marking habits and mood swings, along with diet and routine modifications. Take this notebook with you when you visit us. These seemingly unrelated occurrences may help explain results of your pet's medical tests. Also, if you are out of town and need to take your pet to another veterinarian, it is a good to have this journal to provide a complete medical history.
- Internal MedicineYour veterinarian may refer you to a specialist- veterinarians who have completed advanced studies in specialties such as internal medicine, surgery, and emergency care, if your pet must undergo a procedure that requires more precise knowledge and experience.
- Multiple SclerosisTaylor is the daughter of Dr. Todd and Gina Lykins. She began coming to the clinic to 'work' at the mere age of 3 years of age in 1998. Now all these years later, she lives in Missouri, but is able to work remotely as a member of The Pet Pro. She is currently working to obtain her Masters in Public health. Taylor had initially wanted to follow in her grandfather and her father's footsteps and be a veterinarian. After being diagnosed at the age of 17 with an aggressive form of multiple sclerosis, she was fortunate to have been able to have a stem cell transplant in May of 2016. Taylor has done wonderfully. She is MS symptom-free since having the transplant. She received the most amazing care from the nurses at Northwestern in Chicago. Their empathy and compassion caused her to change her life's course and her want to work on the human side of health, as opposed to the animal side. However, while she is going through her master's program for public health, she will remain working with us here at The Pet Pro. We are so fortunate to have her as part of the team. Therefore, Taylor now has over 25 years experience at The Pet Pro!
