BioTime is engaged in the research and development of aqueous-based synthetic solutions that may be used for blood plasma expansion, blood replacement and organ preservation solutions. The company s patented products are intended for a number of uses, including treatment of hypovolemia, emergency blood replacement, blood transfusions, neurosurgery and the preservation of organs and tissues waiting for transplant. BioTime's products are manufactured and distributed in the United States and Canada by Hospira, and in the Republic of Korea by CJ Corp under an exclusive licensing agreement. BioTime moved to its new headquarters in Emeryville, Calif., in 2005.
