Established in 1994, Southern Illinois University provides a variety of educational programs. It offers various graduate and undergraduate programs. Its undergraduate programs include early childhood development, and elementary and science education. The university provides masters of science degrees in teaching and education and doctoral degree in philosophy. In addition, it provides special education for individuals with disabilities. The university provides various programs in critical thinking, evaluation, synthesis, and analysis through the use of group discussion, collaborative learning and role playing. It provides financial and technology assistance and support for students. The university also offers various athletic activities, such as basketball, volleyball, softball, swimming and diving, baseball and track. It is approved by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the Illinois State Board of Education. Southern Illinois University is located in Carbondale, Ill.
