NIA started in 1926 with the establishment of the Nelson Insurance Agency by Bernat Nelson, a general contractor. Paul Gross, Bernat Nelson s grandson, built the agency through internal growth and acquisition. Through the 1990 s saw NIA s growth fueled by the establishment of key branch offices and acquisitions. The NIA Group is the largest independent insurance brokerage firm in the New York metropolitan area and operates offices throughout New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Florida.
